The Story of White Spot

White Spot is built on a proud history of family-friendly service and feel-good food made from fresh, BC-grown ingredients. From humble beginnings, great things grow.

Nat’s Model T

It all starts with a man and his truck. Nat Bailey transforms his Model T into a travelling lunch counter, which he sets up at Vancouver’s Lookout Point.

Growing with a BC farmer

Nat Bailey shakes hands with Felix Guichon of Felix Farms in Delta, BC, to secure a potato partnership for our signature Kennebec fries. This planted the seeds for White Spot’s continued pride in supporting local growers and farmers. The partnership continues to this day with the Guichon family.

Drive-In dining kicks into high gear

Our iconic Carhop service takes off. As Canada’s first drive-in restaurant, we are now attracting over 110,000 guests a week! White Spot is becoming The Spot for great food and good times for families and friends in BC.

Home of the Sauce

By the 1960s, our Legendary Burger is living up to its name through the popularity of our secret Triple O” sauce. Available at 10 locations, it’s a huge draw for BC teens with big appetites. To this day, only a select few know the actual recipe for our secret sauce.

Giving back to our communities

White Spot’s legacy of supporting the communities where we work and live, including sponsoring a junior pipe band. We’ve continued the tradition to this day, supporting dozens of local charities along the way, such as Variety – The Children’s Charity (since 1966), Zajac Ranch for Children, and many more.

Expanding our footprint with Triple O’s

Triple O’s restaurant officially opens its doors, serving up our famous burgers, fries and shakes to guests in a comfortable and convenient quick-service restaurant environment. Since then, Triple O’s has expanded to Ontario and Alberta, and internationally to Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau.

Introducing our Red Seal Training Program

White Spot becomes the first restaurant to offer a fully certified Red Seal apprenticeship program in-house, with comprehensive culinary training previously reserved for post-secondary institutions. Our Red Seal chefs spend roughly 5,000 hours apprenticing and perfecting their craft in White Spot kitchens.

White Spot lands at YVR

White Spot returns to Vancouver’s YVR International Airport, welcoming guests with familiar favourites alongside exclusive menu items tailored to travellers. Located in the domestic terminal, before security, guests don’t even need a plane ticket to pull up a seat. It’s an essential stop for a true taste of BC.

BC’s go-to” family restaurant story continues

Today, White Spot welcomes over 12 million guests a year for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We’ve come a long way from Nat’s Model T, and we look forward to many more years of serving generations of families delicious food and great memories. Thanks for being part of our journey so far!
